5 Ways Technology Will Change Travel in the Future

Source: sightseeingpass.com Travel is vastly dependent on technology. Almost every aspect of travel  is now handled by technology in one way or another. People who have traveled at least once in their life, can say the names of at least one or two technologies they have used on that trip themselves. The technologies that are used in this sector,  are known as travel technologies.

These travel technologies are being improved, and new inventions are  being innovated rapidly. And these new innovations are sure to bring immense changes in the travel sector. Here I am mentioning some of these future technologies (As some of them are still in the development process) as they might bring near revolution in the travel sector  and the ways they can change and enhance travel in the future:

1.  Virtual Reality (VR) :

The role of Virtual Reality in the Tourism sector is pretty significant, and the importance of this role is only increasing with time. Virtual Reality enables the travelers to have the  experience of visiting a site or travel destination from the comfort of their own homes. The travelers can have the experience of visiting all the features that they could physically (like landmarks, restaurants, hotels, parks, specific events or activities etc.) by Virtual Reality. This is usually used before confirming a specific location's booking to determine whether to travel there or not to. But in this post covid era, this technology can really be helpful to those who are nervous about leaving their home after the pandemic. These virtual tours are also known as 360 tours. These are now compatible with mainstream web browsers so that they are coming closer to the reach of the regular people.

2.  Augmented Reality (AR):

As for being closer to the regular people's reach, Augmented reality can be considered.  Augmented Reality is quite close to virtual reality with the difference that the former works on the surroundings of the viewer, while the latter replaces that entire surrounding with another location's view. And it is claimed to be closer to the regular people's reach as it costs less than the Virtual Reality in comparison. One of the reasons behind this is that, to experience Augmented Reality, one only needs a smartphone or a tablet with an internet connection. This technology can be used in enhancing the traveler's experience. While a traveler is visiting a historical or even a natural touring spot,  Augmented Reality can be used to enhance the surroundings of that said location like in the historical site, the traveler can point his/her device toward a piece of interest and Augmented Reality could show the history and details of it at that precise moment.

3. The Pilot:

Invented by the folks at Waverly labs, The pilot is a glimmering hope for the future, for the actual realization of the global village's concept. To say specifically, the pilot is a pair of small cordless earbuds. Their function is that they translate conversations from any language to the wearer's native language in real-time.  Do you see the appeal? Do you understand what that could mean? It could mean that the language barrier across the world, would be lifted, and language will not be as much of a hindrance it is now for a traveler or a foreigner in a foreign land. But for this to work, it needs to be a two way communication, and for that both of the speakers have to be wearing this technology. Currently these are not available for  everybody and are quite costly too. But the hope they provide hints at the change they could bring to the world and tourism, if and when mass production is possible.

4.  Blockchain:

Despite being in its initial stage, it is assumed that Blockchain is going to bring radical changes in many sectors, including the travel sector. Its application might be in the identification and personalization fields like identifying passengers at the airport, ensuring comfortable, and secure payments and  honesty of the tourists' reviews and opinions. This can eliminate the validation process of information and confirmation process of transactions, which will benefit the businesses and bring more comfort to the travelers. It also shares the records between the business and the traveler, and if any of the changes any information there, the other will get to see that immediately, and that brings transparency of a scale that was not present before.

5.  Timelooper:

Well, most of us, regardless of being a book lover, or a sci-fi lover, have wanted to and mostly thought about time traveling.  Well, we might not get to see any time machines in our lifetime, but this technology is kind of the closest thing to time traveling that we might come to experience. It is actually an app that uses virtual and augmented reality, but its application's ingenuity brings it a special mention. In partnership with several renowned landmarks, it allows the viewers to watch that particular landmarks and their surroundings from now to as they were in the past (up to 750 years back). It only needs a smartphone with or without a virtual reality viewer like Google Cardboard or Oculus Rift that anyone can rent from the specific locations where this app is being used (London, New York and Turkey). This app uses 3D modeling, special effects and live-action sequences and makes the viewers experience moments from the past as though they had genuinely traveled back to the time of the occurrence of these events. Just think about it! Doesn't it feel like living in a miracle for the few moments one might use this technology?  And for those who love history or historical fictions, traveling just became a whole lot more enchanting!

These enticing technologies might change the travel experience's entire outlook and the related industries as they develop more and more with passing time. We can only hope to live long enough to watch the changes brought in this sector and experience some of these great technologies for ourselves.
